Today\u2019s Nurse Practitioner entrepreneurs face shortages in funding as well as staffing. Within the traditional health care settings we have limited time and resources to fulfill outreach initiatives for patient education and health promotion. NP Outreach was created in 2000 to assist busy working Nurse Practitioners by supporting the networking of community resources, local media, educators, grant writers, health insurers, marketers and product manufacturers to promote public health.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In accordance with the American Nurses Association’s “Code for Nurses”, it is our mission as an organization of Nurse Practitioners to collaborate “with members of the health professions and other citizens in promoting community and national efforts to meet the health needs of the public.” -ANA Code for Nurses-<\/p>\n

\u00a0It is simultaneously our goal to promote public awareness of the role of Nurse Practitioners as providers of quality health care. The increasing prevalence of chronic health conditions in the United States requires that we reexamine current service delivery models, and ask ourselves:<\/p>\n

At NP Outreach we believe \u201cthe box\u201d may be our current primary care office. We are committed to finding affordable ways to increase access to care – linked to nontraditional sites of care. By moving ourselves and our potentially chronically ill patients from the \u201csick office\u201d to community wellness settings, we are physically guiding them on a path to health. We are dedicated to this journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

  Head to toe presentation format paralleling sequence of a primary care provider\u2019s complete physical exam, while highlighting health problems unique to the population your are addressing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  Participants are invited to interrupt with any questions they may have and frequently use these lectures as opportunities to clarify questions not raised in their primary care visits. Product safety issues are frequently raised & addressed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

• \n

  Topics are presented in a user-friendly, often humorous, way. Humor works well to engage your audience. Comfort with your subject matter is imperative.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

• \n

  Specific examples of potential health problems are described and their treatment and prevention explored clearly in this comfortable non-threatening setting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  Throughout the lectures any prevention and treatment products identified must have their specific use explained. Presenters use gift bag items as visual demos. NP Outreach provides updated information about all products in each registration bag set<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  NP Outreach screens the product gift bags and highlights any counter indications and presenters are trained to screen attendees appropriately<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  Presenters do not charge the facilities for their services, nor do the facilities charge the presenters or their medical group<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Businesses, government and Community organizations often share common goals with health care providers in the area of public health education, but require coordination to join forces in achieving those goals.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Patients learn best in a comfortable social setting, rather than the undressed sterile typical medical exam room setting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Gift bags and other motivational incentives are effective methods for bringing patients to health promotion activities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Chronic health care problems are not effectively prevented or treated in the acute care setting, as demonstrated by increasing rates of diabetes, cardiac disease, COPD, mental illness, and obesity in the United States.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Group Medical Visits and Shared Medical Visits are interesting new billable service delivery models, that are difficult to accommodate within most primary care offices.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Bringing patients into wellness and health promoting settings is a way for Nurse Practitioners to break up the chronic illness office visit patterns and introduce patients to local currently under utilized resources.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    It was through the process of repeatedly writing grants, networking with Community organizations and businesses, working with fellow NP\u2019s and refining outreach programs and curriculum that Nurse Practitioner Outreach was formed. We invite you to join the team.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
